Cryotherapy and thermotherapy whether or not in combination with compression, is the most used modality in sport clubs.

In recent studies it is stated that even though not all is known on its use, many clinicians are not current with the principles of cooling and heating and the research that has been done. Therefore their use is outdated (Knight and Draper, 2013). However, it is ‘pivotal’ that practitioners are familiarized with the thermodynamics of different modalities (Costello et al. 2013).

Given the many variables that determine the effectiveness of cold and heat therapy, practitioners should realize that no single default protocol exist that is suitable in all circumstances or for all athletes. The right clinical decision, cold or heat treatment, can be detrimental for an optimal ‘therapeutic’ outcome. ProCcare is helping with this by providing the needed protocols for each form of application, based upon an evidence based practical approach. It has found the balance between the best available research in combination with the expertise of on the field clinicians to favor the therapeutic outcome for the athlete that is being treated.

The integration of personal parameters in each protocol is counterbalanced based upon a validated thermo-physiological model. This approach is unique in the world of cooling, heating and compression.
