The growing demand and interest of the general population, corporate people and recreational, competitive and elite athletes on how to maintain and optimize health, how to prevent and relieve health conditions and even more important how to recover from daily, corporate and sports activities has been the seed of a multi-billion industry.

However, not all information delivered by this industry is credible. On the contrary, much of the information delivered is not conform to safety norms and in many cases does not deliver the promised outcome results.

As your coach and trainer, I will give you fair, correct and best practice information and guidance.

Your Expert.

It all comes down to credibility

Licensed Sports Physical Therapist
Rehabilitation and Management of injuries

My passion for helping athletes, patients, and clients based on a full understanding of each step in the rehab or recovery process has always been my drive in my professional activities. This has led to participation in countless courses, conferences, and brainstorming sessions with colleagues and an extensive library in the subjects of my expertise.

40 Years of experience.

While being an exchange student in US in the hope to have a professional basketball career, a knee injury forced me to become a student athletic trainer in 1978 at the University of Pittsburgh USA. A few years after, in 1982, I received my degree and license as a physical therapist from the Higher Institute of Physical Therapy Antwerp. This degree, in combination with my hobby of weight lifting and personal training, gave me enough understanding to open my private rehab clinic Athletes’ Care Antwerp that same year. Since then, I have maintained a close relationship with a number of professional associations and clubs while serving as a consultant, coach and subject matter expert in the fields of recovery and health.

Value for money.

Understand before you invest!

When it comes down to recovery and health equipment, there is a great need for fair and correct information before investing.

Unlimited and endless claims are made by manufacturers and commercial websites, not only on the benefits of recovery and health modalities but also on the technological advantages of their use.

Therefore, I became YOUR expert in recovery & health equipment for sport & health.

  • INCREASE YOUR RETURN ON INVESTMENT
  • GIVE YOU AN ADVENTIVE EDGE AS AN ATHLETE
  • MAKE YOU MORE INNOVATIVE AS A HEALTHCARE PRACTITIONER
  • MAKE US ALL LIVE LONGER, BETTER AND WITH MORE COMFORT

Good to know.

The basic principles of recovery equipment

Due to the growing world of recovery equipment manufacturers, there is also a growing need for users to understand more about how to apply such modalities in order to achieve optimal benefits in sports and health, and this is all within safety measures.

Cold, hot & contrast water immersion, ice and cold tubs, whole-body cryo, infrared sauna, mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy, photobiomodulation beds and vibration are all considered ‘environmental stressors’ that are bound by certain principles, which are important to know and understand:

HORMESIS

The term ‘hormesis’ comes from ancient Greek ‘hormáein’ meaning to set in motion. It sets in motion a favourable biological response to a mild stressor. If such a stressor is used regularly, it triggers protective mechanisms that provide protection from future, more harmful stressors.

Hormesis is a general and central biological concept. It affects all disciplines utilizing the dose-response concept and it represents a general adaptive strategy through which biological performance is enhanced and mediated.

The biomedical community has now started to exploit it for public health, sports recovery, and therapeutic and commercial benefits. It is a non-monotonic/biphasic dose-response, with specific dose-response features.

DOSE-RESPONSE

A dose-response phenomenon, also called the Arndt-Shulz principle, is characterized by a moderate dose stimulation and a high dose inhibition.

If the intensity of the modality application is too low or the treatment duration is too short, little or no benefits are gained.

If the intensity of the modality is too great or the treatment duration is too long, or if it is applied at the wrong point in the healing process, benefits will be suppressed or hampered, and even cell damage can occur.

INDIVIDUALITY-OUTCOME

The outcome of the hormetic response when using modalities such as cold, hot & contrast water immersion, ice and cold tubs, whole-body cryo,  infrared sauna, mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy, photobiomodulation beds and vibration also strongly depends on the individual characteristics of the person undergoing such an environmental stressor.

Science is very clear that such personal characteristics like gender, age, height, weight, fat% or BMI, skin type, and even conditioning level play an important role in safety and outcome.

A bespoke approach specially made for a particular person is therefore needed.

Software support.

Better decisions based on our software.

CLINICAL DECISION IS KEY

If you want to trigger the best results in a safe manner for your athlete, client, or patient when using recovery equipment, the right clinical decision is ‘key.’

Besides a good understanding of the physiological mechanisms that recovery equipment or therapeutic modalities can trigger, either local, regional or systemic, such a clinical decision is based upon a combination of one’s knowledge and understanding of four important elements: safety – technology – protocol – efficacy.

OUR SOFTWARE SUPPORTS YOU

Therefore we developed software as a computerized clinical decision support system, or CDSS, that supports and guides each operator. The use of our CDSS represents a paradigm shift in recovery for sports and health today.

When administered, it will give the operator guidance not only towards the optimal individual doses but also provides frequency, timing, cycle and periodization. And last but not least, it offers standardization of each modality used, making sure that each session lies within the optimal ‘zone’ for each objective for the person undergoing the session.

A combination of real-time monitoring of the physiological recovery responses and personal feedback enables our CDSS to further optimize its practical use and outcome.

Science snippets.

I’ve created a collection of blog topics called “Science Snippets” that places the scientific data presented in academic publications and research in its proper context and perspective, assisting recovery and health device operators to make the most appropriate clinical decision for dependable and safe use.
